10/22/2018 0 Comments 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016)I have seen this movie before but I wanted to write about it because it is very underrated in my opinion. Without a doubt the best Cloverfield movie. Also one of the better thrillers in the past 10 years. This movie didn't get a lot of media attention and it deserves more credit. The movie did a great job with its suspense and action. The last scene when the girl is trying to escape is an amazing sequence of events. John Goodman's character going crazy and chasing her was so awesome. Speaking of John Goodman, I think he did a really good job in this movie. I'm so use to john Goodman playing these nice and friendly characters. For me he is Sully from Monster INC. In this ,movie he is a monster. Just the worst person imaginable. It strange because by the end of the movie you sympathize with him a little bit. The entire movie he was saying outside is dangerous and he was right. He was crazy, don't get me wrong but he was absolutely correct. If he wasn't so crazy there would be no movie I guess. The twist is really fun and I was blown away the first time I saw it.Thinking back now it may have been predictable because of the title. The Girl goes under a cool change while being underground. She turns from running away from your problems and now she faces them. I love that message and I think it is accurate. Overall I would give this movie an 8.7/10. So awesome and worth the time 10/14/2018 1 Comment Robocop (1987)Ending my last first quarter journal with a movie which some consider a classic action film, Robocop. This movie is a classic one for a reason. It is a very good movie and I enjoyed myself very much. I like the simple story to the film, a murdered cop gets turned into a robot and is used to fight crime in a futuristic Detroit. Robocop is awesome. I forgot what an original robot was thought to be like back in the 80's. Today, robots have so many forms and uses. Robocop is a stereotype that I love and miss. Robocop has sight humor to him. Like when he throws Clarence through 4 different windows. There is no need for it but it made me laugh because it was so over the top. Speaking of Clarence, he was a really well acted and enjoyable. The female cop was awesome! A strong female character that doesn't go over the top. She cool, fun, and kicks butt. The movie's setting was fantastic and I loved to see what people thought the future was going to look like. Acting was solid over all. The camera work was cool like when they are about to reveal Robocop and they show you a glimpse on other tvs. That was awesome. A couple of things I didn't like CGI. Oh my lord was that not good looking. Also, I enjoyed the action but sometimes the gore was a little over the top. Like when that guy runs into the toxic waste then gets hit by a car. Just a bit over the top. Cool concept and fun movie. 8.6/10 10/7/2018 1 Comment No Country for Old Men (2007)Who in the world knew that a bowl cut would turn out to be so scary. My film teacher showed us a video and this movie was featured in that video. It dawned on me that this movie was on Netflix so I decided to give it a chance. I sat down and watched some of the best acting and suspense I have ever seen in a movie. I loved how brave and different this movie turned out. (spoiler) They kill the main character of the movie! how many movies can pull that off!? I was flabbergasted by the beauty in this movie. I never thought I would be so impressed with the looks of the Texas desert. Stunning
My lord was the acting in this movie absolutely incredible. The acting by Javier Bardem was so crazy good. He plays a psychopathic killer who is hunting the main character who is played by Josh Brolin. Bardem played this character so well. The suspense in this movie is amazing but actors who great at dramatic acting take in to a entire different level. There is a scene were Bardem's character Anton is in a store talking to the owner. The sound is almost gone and all you can see is the acting. That scene is absolutely brilliant and is now my favorite scene in any movie I have ever watched. I have watched that. Not only that but this movie was the perfect amount of violence for me. The action was not tons of cuts but suspenseful. I could gush over how much I liked this movie! I wish I watched this movie earlier in my life! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BqMdQBox15s This has made it into my top 5 list. 9.5/10 10/4/2018 1 Comment The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari 1920After watching this movie, I realize thriller dramas are so much harder to make without speech and sound. It takes a lot out of the movie. Even then, I enjoyed the movie quite a bit. It was so strange and weird. The plot was kinda interesting and brings up pretty interesting moral question. Is someone guilty of murder if they don't know if they are doing it
It's a classic German film. German films make you think about what is true. Thrillers make you think and tense. This movie does that very well. I felt tense in this movie and I really like that. It is a good movie for it's time. I think the fact that this movie is a silent film takes away from the potential of this movie. They did remake it but I'm not sure if it had dialogue. Either way, that remake did not do very well. I don't know, i really just don't like silent movies. I can see why it is so highly praised. 6.5/10 10/2/2018 1 Comment The Wind Rise (2013)This is it. I have been holding off for a long time. This is the last movie Hayao Miyazaki will ever make and I really loved it. Miyazaki has captured my imagination in my childhood with crazy worlds and fantasy. They were beautiful with super powerful messages. Although this wasn't my favorite film of his, I think it was the best movie he could leave as his last one. He drives home his final points. This movie is about a boy who wants to design airplanes. The setting is around the second world war. In WW2, the japanese suffered the worst bombings in human history. Miyazaki hates war and this is probably where it comes from. He shows in his final film the affects and horrors of war. I really appreciate what he is doing in this movie.
The movie is visually beautiful and I love his view of our amazing planet. The way his world tries to show that we need to protect our world because it is so wonderful. The story is awesome. There are so many ways you can view one of messages. Miyazaki movies make me think so much and I appreciate all of his work in trying to promote what he holds at value. I also really enjoy the voice acting in this movie. Cast is good and they did a great job. I usually don't like romance but this one was fun and enjoyable. Thank you Miyazaki 8/10 |
